The               cause               of               death               is               as               yet               unknown.

The               body               was               found               as               a               result               of               searches               that               began               Sunday               following               a               tip               that               Shaniya               Davis               would               be               found               in               the               area.

Shaniya               Davis               was               just               5               years               old.

The               disappearance               of               Shaniya               Davis               from               her               mother's               home               in               Fayetteville,               North               Carolina,               set               Cumberland               County               on               edge               Tuesday.

When               authorities'               search               for               the               missing               5-year-old               turned               up               a               blanket               the               next               day,               neighboring               counties               became               involved               and               an               Amber               Alert               went               out.

But               fear               and               dread               turned               to               shocked               disgust               when               one               man,               Mario               Andrette               McNeill,               was               arrested,               admitted               to               taking               Shaniya               Davis               from               her               home,               then               stopped               talking.

But               it               all               turned               to               outrage               when               Shaniya               Davis'               mother,               Antoinette               Davis,               was               arrested               on               suspicion               of               selling               her               daughter               into               prostitution               and               sexual               slavery.
Antoinette               Davis               informed               Fayetteville               Police               Tuesday               morning               that               her               daughter               was               missing.

A               few               hours               later,               a               worker               at               Comfort               Suites               hotel               in               Sanford,               North               Carolina,               called               police               and               told               them               he               had               seen               a               little               girl               fitting               the               description               of               Shaniya               Davis.

When               police               arrived,               however,               the               man               and               child               were               gone.

But               perusal               of               the               hotel's               video               surveillance               footage               uncovered               the               image               of               Shaniya               Davis               being               carried               into               the               hotel               by               a               man.
That               man,               later               identified               as               Mario               Andrette               McNeill,               turned               himself               into               police               Thursday               night               and               admitted               to               taking               Shaniya               Davis               from               her               home.

After               being               charged               with               first-degree               kidnapping,               he               refused               to               admit               that               he               had               abducted               the               child.
The               next               day,               Antoinette               Nicole               Davis               was               arrested               for               human               trafficking,               prostitution,               felony               child               abuse,               filing               a               false               police               report,               and               resisting,               delaying,               or               obstructing               an               officer.

In               short,               Antoinette               Davis               had               not               simply               had               her               child               abducted               from               her               sofa               as               she               had               claimed.

She               had               allegedly               sold               her               5-year-old               daughter               into               sexual               slavery.
Much               the               same               thing               had               been               feared               when               3-year-old               Briant               Rodriguez               was               abducted               at               gunpoint               from               his               San               Bernardino,               California               home.

When               his               family               did               not               receive               a               ransom               demand,               it               was               suggested               that               the               kidnappers               may               have               been               human               traffickers.

Two               armed               men               had               invaded               the               home,               bound               the               entire               family               with               duct               tape,               ransacked               the               Rodriguez               home,               then               left,               taking               young               Briant               Rodriguez               with               them.

An               Amber               Alert               was               issued               nine               hours               later.

But               it               would               be               11               days               before               authorities               in               Mexico               discovered               the               boy               wandering               the               streets               of               the               border               town               of               Mexicali.

But               Shaniya               Davis'               story               would               not               end               with               her               reunited               with               her               family.

It               ended               with               her               body               found               alongside               Interstate               87               about               50               miles               from               Fayetteville.

It               is               as               yet               unclear               if               officials               in               Fayetteville               and               Cumberland               County               will               seek               to               amend               charges               against               either               Mario               Andrette               McNeill               or               Antoinette               Davis               to               include               manslaughter               or               murder               charges.

It               is               also               unclear               if               there               are               others               involved.
