Jamaal Greear's blog ::Yahoo! Alerts - Today's Local News for Los Angeles CA

I               recently               volunteered               at               my               daughters'               school               in               the               Project               Ident-A-Kid               program               which               schools               in               Ocean               County,               New               Jersey               participate               in               every               year.

I               was               very               pleased               to               offer               my               time               to               this               very               worthwhile               program.

Project               Ident-A-Kid               is               a               simple               tool               which               will               keeps               a               child's               vital               statistics               and               unique               physical               characteristics               on               a               laminated               card               which               the               parent               then               keeps               at               home               in               a               secure               area.

In               the               event               of               an               abduction               or               the               child               runs               away,               the               Project               Ident-A-Kid               card               can               help               law               enforcement               find               the               child               as               quickly               as               possible.

Project               Ident-A-Kid               starts               with               a               permission               slip.

Several               weeks               before               the               even               takes               place,               a               permission               slip               is               sent               home               to               the               parents.

Since               the               child               will               be               photographed               and               fingerprinted,               each               child               must               have               the               written               consent               of               the               parent               to               participate               in               the               program.

Attached               to               the               permission               slip               is               a               small               card               where               the               parent               fills               out               pertinent               information               about               the               child               such               as               name,               birth               date,               blood               type,               weight,               height,               address               and               phone               number.

On               the               back               of               the               card               is               a               place               for               the               child's               primary               doctor's               name               and               phone               number               as               well               as               several               lines               where               parents               can               fill               in               any               identifying               marks               such               as               scars               or               birth               marks.

There               is               also               a               space               for               parents               to               list               any               physical               conditions               or               medications               that               the               child               needs.
On               the               day               when               Project               Ident-A-Kid               takes               place,               each               child               with               a               signed               permission               slip               gets               photographed               and               fingerprinted               by               law               enforcement               personnel.

The               card               then               gets               laminated               and               sent               home               that               day               to               the               parents.

In               an               unforeseen               emergency               situation,               the               child's               parents               has               extremely               vital               information               about               their               child               in               one               area.

The               child's               fingerprints               are               used               only               for               the               Ident-A-Kid               card               and               are               not               kept               on               file               anywhere.

The               card               also               gets               date               stamped               so               that               in               the               unfortunate               event               that               this               card               needs               to               be               used,               law               enforcement               will               know               that               how               recent               the               picture               currently               is.
In               the               tragic               case               of               child               abduction,               time               is               of               the               essence.

Along               with               the               Amber               Alert,               the               Project               Ident-A-Kid               card               can               help               law               enforcement               in               swiftly               tracking               down               the               missing               child.

Project               Ident-A-Kid               is               a               yearly               event               which               enables               parents               to               keep               an               up               to               date               photo               along               with               any               changes               in               physical               appearance               or               condition               noted.
I               am               pleased               to               say               that               we               had               almost               one               hundred               percent               participation               among               the               children               in               my               daughters'               school.

I               would               venture               to               say               that               the               parents               who               chose               not               to               have               their               children               participate               in               Project               Ident-A-Kid               simply               misunderstood               the               intent               of               the               program.

If               your               child's               school               does               not               participate               in               Project               Ident-A-Kid               or               a               comparable               project,               approach               your               school's               PTA               or               the               school's               principal               to               suggest               it.

This               is               truly               a               wonderful               program               that               will               greatly               assist               in               the               quick               and               safe               return               of               a               missing               child               in               your               community.
